Welcome Cubs Fans!

This Blog will be about the decade of 1980 and the hobby of collecting baseball cards, mainly Chicago Cubs. Most of the modern day cards are inexpensive unlike vintage baseball it will be much easier to collect the different sets. So we will start off with 80 Topps and end with 89 Upper Deck with thousands of cards in-between. Highlight of this era is 83 Sandberg Rookie

1988 Fleer

1988 Fleer set consists of 660 standard-size cards.The card fronts feature a color player photograph surrounded by a white border with blue and red diagonal lines. As in years past cards are organized numerically by teams and team order is based upon the previous season's record. The players name and position are found along the top left. The team logo is found at the top right. The backs of these cards contain player bio and statistical information along with a new feature called "At Their Best" which graphically shows the players pitching or hitting stats for home, road, day and night games. Subsets include Highlight cards (HL) cards 622-640, Major League Prospects (MLP) cards 641-653 and Team Checklists (CL). This set was issued with team logo stickers.

1988 Score Inaugural Baseball Set

Score joined the list of baseball card manufacturers in 1988. This set consists of 660 standard-size cards. The fronts featured six distinctive border colors which were equalled divided with 110 cards per color. The color photograph on the front had a thin white border, players name were located along the bottom with his position just under his name. The score logo was found at the bottom right. Along with being full color, the backs contained the team logo, a player portrait along with a brief biography, player data and statistics. Score was produced by Major League Marketing the same company that produced Sportflics cards. Subsets include Reggie Jackson Tribute (500-504), Highlights (652-660) and Rookie Prospects (623-647).
