Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will discuss the 1980s and the baseball card collecting hobby, with a focus on the Chicago Cubs. Contrary to vintage baseball cards, the majority of modern cards are affordable. The various sets will be considerably simpler to obtain. So, with thousands of cards in between, we'll start with 80 Topps and end with 89 Upper Deck. The apex of this period was represented by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1982 On Deck Cookies Discs Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

32 disks in the On Deck Cookies Discs collection included 1 Cubs player.

Size of Cards

The size of the disks are 2 3/4"

Basic Features

On Deck Cookies products are single-packaged and mainly available in the East Coast area. As is common for MSA sets, all of the team insignias have been airbrushed away (which is explained below). The majority of MSA releases were in partnership with the food industry. The discs are not numbered, and there is no information about the player depicted on the back of the disk. The fronts feature colorful borders and black-and-white photos of star players, and there are stitches around the disk that make it look like a baseball.

The 1982 On Deck set is one of the more difficult to locate among the several MSA baseball disc sets created during this time.

Major League Baseball Players Association ("MLBPA") players' unions gave them permission to use their images, but MSA (Michael Schechter Associates) decided to keep costs down by not getting licenses from the leagues, which is why team logos have been airbrushed out.
