This blog will explore the baseball card collecting hobby of the 1980s, particularly highlighting the Chicago Cubs. Unlike vintage baseball cards, most modern cards are quite budget-friendly. The different sets will be much easier to find. Therefore, with thousands of cards in the mix, we will begin with the 80 Topps and conclude with the highly valuable 1985 Topps Mini Test. The pinnacle of this era was marked by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

Basic Features

In 1988, Kenner debuted the Starting Lineup baseball player figures by releasing a 124 player set. Kenner Toys, also known as SLU by collectors, were released between 1988 and 2001. The original 1988 SLU figure came with a baseball card. The fronts have the Starting Lineup logo on top along with a player's photo; the player's photo is surrounded by red borders. The backs of the cards have biographical information as well as seasonal and career statistics. Some figures that appear on the checklist on the back of the package were not produced because the player switched teams before the start of the 1988 season.
