Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will discuss the 1980s and the baseball card collecting hobby, with a focus on the Chicago Cubs. Contrary to vintage baseball cards, the majority of modern cards are affordable. The various sets will be considerably simpler to obtain. So, with thousands of cards in between, we'll start with 80 Topps and end with 89 Upper Deck. The apex of this period was represented by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

Topps released special collector's edition sets, also referred to as Topps Tiffany cards, to collectors between 1984 and 1991. Topps Tiffany cards were printed in Ireland on premium white card paper with a glossy cover, the sets contained exactly the same cards as the standard Topps regular issue. In 1987, only 15,000 of these sets were produced.

1987 Topps Baseball and Tiffany will have a "*" on the back of the cards, but Tiffany will not have "PRTN IN USA" on the back because it was printed in Ireland.

The 1987 Topps Baseball Traded has a ** in the bottom left corner. Tiffany has none. However, some regular Topps Traded cards are also missing the **

With that said, if you're investing in a Maddux rookie, get a graded card from a reputable company to play it safe.
