Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will discuss the 1980s and the baseball card collecting hobby, with a focus on the Chicago Cubs. Contrary to vintage baseball cards, the majority of modern cards are affordable. The various sets will be considerably simpler to obtain. So, with thousands of cards in between, we'll start with 80 Topps and end with 89 Upper Deck. The apex of this period was represented by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1992 Bowman Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

The 1992 Bowman collection contained 705 cards, including 23 Cubs players and 1 foil insert card.

Size of Cards

The size of the cards are standard-size 2 ½ x 3 ½

Basic Features

Let's face it, Bowman messed up in 1989 by producing an oversize card that didn't fit in a binder, which turned collectors off; in 1990 and 1991, the set was boring with bad photos and cruddy card stock, making it just uncollectible; and then came the 1992 Bowman with a much-needed design overhaul. Card fronts feature posed and action-color player photos on a UV-coated white card face. With the bright white borders, this is what they needed. The real magic was on the reverse side. With a headshot, bio, and stats against each team for the prior year, this, in my opinion, was the best set in 1992. A subset of Team USA players and MLB Players of the Year got the gold foil treatment. These cards have borders that use textured foil.

Nothing can beat the 1955 Bowman, but this set comes close.
