Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will discuss the 1980s and the baseball card collecting hobby, with a focus on the Chicago Cubs. Contrary to vintage baseball cards, the majority of modern cards are affordable. The various sets will be considerably simpler to obtain. So, with thousands of cards in between, we'll start with 80 Topps and end with 89 Upper Deck. The apex of this period was represented by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1989 Bowman Chicago Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

1989 Bowman has 484 cards which there are 19 Cubs players

Size of Cards

The size of the cards are 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 slightly oversize!

Basic Features

The fronts have white-bordered color photos with facsimile autographs and small Bowman logos. The backs feature charts detailing 1988 player performances vs. each team. The cards are ordered alphabetically according to teams in the AL and NL. Cards 258–261 form a father-son subset.

The design of the set was meant to resemble the 1953 Bowman Color Baseball set. The lack of compatibility with standard storage supplies hurts sales of the product.

1980 Kellogg's Chicago Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

1980 Kellogg's has 60 cards which there are 2 Cubs players

Size of Cards

The size of the cards are 1 7/8" by 3 1/4 smaller (narrower)

Basic Features

The 1980 Kellogg's 3-D set could be obtained card by card from cereal boxes or as a set from a box-top offer from the company. Cards discovered with the wrapper intact are worth 25% more than they were in 1980.

The front of each card has a plastic coating that is made to look 3-D.

The backs included a long biography and other statistical information.
