Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will explore the baseball card collecting hobby of the 1980s, particularly highlighting the Chicago Cubs. Unlike vintage baseball cards, most modern cards are quite budget-friendly. The different sets will be much easier to find. Therefore, with thousands of cards in the mix, we will begin with the 80 Topps and conclude with the highly valuable 1985 Topps Mini Test. The pinnacle of this era was marked by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1987 Fleer Classic Miniatures Chicago Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

1987 Fleer Mini had 120 cards, 5 of which are Cub players.

Card Dimensions

The smaller-sized cards are the following dimensions: 1 13/16" by 2 9/16"

Basic Features

The 1987 Fleer Mini is a boxed set of 120 cards that only loosely parallels the 1987 Fleer. Each card, which is officially referred to as the "Classic Miniatures," is 1 13/16" x 2 9/16" and was only available from Hobby Outlets. There were 12 mini-sized team logo stickers included in each package. On the reverse of the cards are statistics about the players' careers.

The box of mini stickers contained two types of inserts. The first type, called Stripes, included 18 stickers per box. These stickers featured a blue background adorned with yellow stars and had a red top border. The second type, known as Stars, also had 18 stickers per box. These stickers showcased a red and white striped background with a blue top border. Unfortunately, these mini stickers did not gain much popularity among collectors. I needed to purchase several boxes to gather all the stickers.
