In 1989, Kenner increased the size of their baseball set significantly, producing 168 figures. Kenner Toys, also known as SLU by collectors, were manufactured from 1988 to 2001. The fronts feature the Starting Lineup logo on top, as well as a player's photo surrounded by black borders. Biographical information, as well as seasonal and career statistics, are printed on the backs of the cards. Some figures on the checklist on the back of the package were not produced because the player changed teams before the 1989 season began.Kenner produced two subsets in 1989. The first one was called "Baseball Greats," of which there were 8 two-card sets, but there were 3 bonus cards to make it a total of 19 cards. This set was a mail-in promotion. Kenner also had a set called One-On-One Cards, which had two players in each box with a total of eight to collect. All cards will be listed in the checklist below. Because they were not numbered for reference, these sets are listed alphabetically. For the entire set, I made up the numbers chronological order.
