Food cards from the early twentieth century to the present have a devoted following among collectors. This is only one of hundreds of strange sets available. There are some weird sets that are extremely difficult to obtain or extremely rare, but not this one.Baseball cards have been packed as a promotional component in food products for decades. Drake's Bakery decided to try to capitalize on Hostess' popularity with baseball cards and baked products in 1981.
For the third year, Drake's Cakes has issued a set dubbed "Big Hitters." The fronts look to be very identical to those of the previous two years, with minor variations in the framelines and player-identifying portions. This card is a must-have for food card collectors, featuring action shots of the sportsmen as well as facsimile autographs.
The backs are similar to the Topps backs from this year, save for the card number and the Drake insignia.
