Food cards from the early twentieth century to the present have a devoted following among collectors. This is only one of hundreds of strange sets available. There are some weird sets that are extremely difficult to obtain or extremely rare, but not this one.Baseball cards have been packed as a promotional component in food products for decades. Drake's Bakery decided to try to capitalize on Hostess' popularity with baseball cards and baked products in 1980s.
For the fifth year in a row, Drake's Cakes' Collectors Edition baseball cards, produced in collaboration with Topps, continued its seemingly annual series with a fresh twist. Eleven pitchers were included for the first time. The pitchers are numbered 34–44, and the "Big Hitters" are numbered 1–33. The front has green and yellow boxes that state the card number plus the player's name with position. The backs are red with the normal bios, stats, and baseball trivia.
Some of my all time favorite Cub players are in this set: Ryno, Sarge, and the Penguin.
