Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will discuss the 1980s and the baseball card collecting hobby, with a focus on the Chicago Cubs. Contrary to vintage baseball cards, the majority of modern cards are affordable. The various sets will be considerably simpler to obtain. So, with thousands of cards in between, we'll start with 80 Topps and end with 89 Upper Deck. The apex of this period was represented by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

Card Dimensions

The standard-sized cards are the following dimensions: 2-1/2" by 3-1/2"

Basic Features

The front of these cards contains a player color photo framed by a black-and-gold border. The Donruss logo and year are located at the top, and the player's name and position are located at the bottom inside a color strip. The team logo is also found on the front of the card near the bottom.

The backs are printed in black ink on yellow and white and contain the typical player bio and stats. Also, the backs of the cards in the factory sets are oriented differently than cards taken from wax packs, giving the appearance that one version or the other is upside down when sorting from the card backs.
