Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will explore the baseball card collecting hobby of the 1980s, particularly highlighting the Chicago Cubs. Unlike vintage baseball cards, most modern cards are quite budget-friendly. The different sets will be much easier to find. Therefore, with thousands of cards in the mix, we will begin with the 80 Topps and conclude with the highly valuable 1985 Topps Mini Test. The pinnacle of this era was marked by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1986 Sports Design JD McCarthy Cubs

Number of Cards

24 cards in the JD McCarthy collection included 3 Cubs players.

Size of Cards

The size of the cards are standard-size 2 ½ x 3 ½

Basic Features

J.D. McCarthy's photography is featured on this set. The fronts are designed similarly to the 1969 Topps issue, while the backs are very plain and show only the player's name. McCarthy was a baseball photographer in Detroit. He specialized in taking posed photos of ball players. Over the years, he made a lot of postcards. For some people, that is all they collect. I really like the photos of the all-time great Cubs that are in this set. These are not reprints.
