This blog will explore the baseball card collecting hobby of the 1980s, particularly highlighting the Chicago Cubs. Unlike vintage baseball cards, most modern cards are quite budget-friendly. The different sets will be much easier to find. Therefore, with thousands of cards in the mix, we will begin with the 80 Topps and conclude with the highly valuable 1985 Topps Mini Test. The pinnacle of this era was marked by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1989 Bowman Chicago Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

1989 Bowman has 484 cards which there are 19 Cubs players

Size of Cards

The size of the cards are 2 1/2 by 3 3/4 slightly oversize!

Basic Features

The front of the cards showcases color photographs bordered in white, accompanied by facsimile signatures. On the reverse side, there are charts that outline player performances from 1988 against each team. The cards are organized alphabetically by team within the American League and National League. Additionally, cards numbered 258 to 261 create a father-son subset. The overall design of this set is inspired by the 1953 Bowman Color Baseball set. However, the incompatibility with standard storage solutions negatively impacts the product's sales.

Parallel Sets

The Collector's Edition Tiffany cards, released as a factory set, showcase a glossy finish and are produced on white cardstock. The estimated print run is 6,000 copies.
