Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will explore the baseball card collecting hobby of the 1980s, particularly highlighting the Chicago Cubs. Unlike vintage baseball cards, most modern cards are quite budget-friendly. The different sets will be much easier to find. Therefore, with thousands of cards in the mix, we will begin with the 80 Topps and conclude with the highly valuable 1985 Topps Mini Test. The pinnacle of this era was marked by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

Size of Cards

The standard-sized cards are the following dimensions: 2-1/2" by 3-1/2"

Basic Features

For the first time since 1915, Topps teamed up with Cracker Jack and reentered the baseball card market. Cards came in two sheets of eight cards apiece, plus an advertising card with a title in the center, which measured approximately 7 1/2" by 10 1/2". Two sheets were originally available over the mail. This was to promote the first "Old Timers Baseball Classic," which took place on July 19, 1982.

The color player photographs include a Cracker Jack border and either green (NL) or red (AL) frame lines and name panels. The Cracker Jack emblem appears on both sides of each card, along with the numbers 1–8 for AL players and 9–16 for NL players. The backs had the usual stats, bio, and a blurb about their career.
