Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will discuss the 1980s and the baseball card collecting hobby, with a focus on the Chicago Cubs. Contrary to vintage baseball cards, the majority of modern cards are affordable. The various sets will be considerably simpler to obtain. So, with thousands of cards in between, we'll start with 80 Topps and end with 89 Upper Deck. The apex of this period was represented by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1988 was the first year of Panini sticker albums. A 64-page album onto which the stickers could be affixed was available at retail stores. The album features Don Mattingly on the front and a photo of a gold glove on the back.

There are 80 foil stickers in the set; these foils are essentially the non-player stickers.

The last 26 stickers in the album are actually lettered rather than numbered and are listed below as numbers 455-480. The stickers were also sold at retail outlets packed with the album as a "Complete Collectors Set." The 1988 Panini Sticker Set was heavily promoted as Panini entered the baseball sticker market under its own label after producing Topps' stickers for the previous seven years.
