Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will discuss the 1980s and the baseball card collecting hobby, with a focus on the Chicago Cubs. Contrary to vintage baseball cards, the majority of modern cards are affordable. The various sets will be considerably simpler to obtain. So, with thousands of cards in between, we'll start with 80 Topps and end with 89 Upper Deck. The apex of this period was represented by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

Size of Cards

The size of the post cards are 3-1/2" by 5-1/2"

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and this set features artwork by artist Dick Perez. The backs of the cards are in postcard style. A gorgeous painting of an all-time great Cubs player graces the front of the post card. It's Perez's best work to date, in my opinion. The reverse features a post card back and is numbered up to 10,000. The player's name and the date of their induction into the hall of fame are included on the cards.

You can acquire the players' autographs on these. If you're interested in collecting one, be sure it's been graded by a respected company.

Size of Cards

The size of the discs measure approximately 2 3/4"

Basic Features

Holsum is a brand of bread that has been around since the early 1900s. Between the bread wrapper and the bread itself, the disks would be sandwiched. A headshot of a player who is not wearing a team hat appears on the front. The player's name, height, weight, and year of birth were all listed on the other side of the disk. The 1988 statistics are listed first, followed by the lifetime statistics. Vance Law appeared on Mark Grace's disc, which was an uncorrected error.
