Welcome Cubs Fans!

This blog will explore the baseball card collecting hobby of the 1980s, particularly highlighting the Chicago Cubs. Unlike vintage baseball cards, most modern cards are quite budget-friendly. The different sets will be much easier to find. Therefore, with thousands of cards in the mix, we will begin with the 80 Topps and conclude with the highly valuable 1985 Topps Mini Test. The pinnacle of this era was marked by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1987 Fleer Game Winners Chicago Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

44 cards in the 1987 Fleer Game Winners included 1 Cub player.

Size of Cards

The size of the cards are standard-size 2 ½ x 3 ½

Basic Features

The 1987 Fleer Game Winners boxed set, which included 44 standard-size cards, distributed at various "five-and-dime" retail outlets. The cards' had full-color fronts, and the backs had the usual bio with career stats. The collection is referred to as "Baseballs Game Winners" on the card box. The set's checklist is included on the back of the set box. Six stickers from the Fleer main collection from 1987 were also included.

Although one could argue that one 1987 Fleer Game Winners box would suffice, a serious Cubs fan would want this set to have most, if not all, of the store stickers on it. This is simply something different that a master collection would have, and it is not difficult to accomplish. It also has no bearing on the value.

1987 Fleer Classic Miniatures Chicago Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

1987 Fleer Mini had 120 cards, 5 of which are Cub players.

Card Dimensions

The smaller-sized cards are the following dimensions: 1 13/16" by 2 9/16"

Basic Features

The 1987 Fleer Mini is a boxed set of 120 cards that only loosely parallels the 1987 Fleer. Each card, which is officially referred to as the "Classic Miniatures," is 1 13/16" x 2 9/16" and was only available from Hobby Outlets. There were 12 mini-sized team logo stickers included in each package. On the reverse of the cards are statistics about the players' careers.

The box of mini stickers contained two types of inserts. The first type, called Stripes, included 18 stickers per box. These stickers featured a blue background adorned with yellow stars and had a red top border. The second type, known as Stars, also had 18 stickers per box. These stickers showcased a red and white striped background with a blue top border. Unfortunately, these mini stickers did not gain much popularity among collectors. I needed to purchase several boxes to gather all the stickers.
