This blog will explore the baseball card collecting hobby of the 1980s, particularly highlighting the Chicago Cubs. Unlike vintage baseball cards, most modern cards are quite budget-friendly. The different sets will be much easier to find. Therefore, with thousands of cards in the mix, we will begin with the 80 Topps and conclude with the highly valuable 1985 Topps Mini Test. The pinnacle of this era was marked by the Sandberg Rookie of the Year in 1983.

1985 Topps Rub-downs Cubs Checklist

Number of Cards

32-sheet featuring 112 players in the 1985 Topps Rub-downs collection with 4 Cub players.

Size of Cards

The size of the cards measures approximately 2 3/8" by 3 5/16"

Basic Features

The color photos were printed on tissue paper and could be transferred by rubbing a coin over the paper backing. In packages of two rub-down sheets, the set contained player action poses, portraits, and various pieces of player equipment. Produced in Italy (Letraset), the world leader in this printing technique.
